Being true to oneself as a South Asian
Is being true to oneself as a South Asian and living an authentic life a novel concept to us?
Do we have to watch what aunty or uncle or society will say as a general rule?
Although our communities are not based on individualism, does that mean we suffocate our true self?
Are the following fears stopping us to be authentic:
- disapproval
- rejection
- not liked
- judged
- criticized
- ostracized
- back-bite
- not loved
- Loosing privileges
Is it your way or the highway?
Life is short and such a beautiful thing, yet we make each other’s lives miserable putting unnecessary restrictions and expectations on each other.
Whatever happened to:
- unconditional love
- compassion
- tolerance
- patience
- understanding
- acceptance
If you are judging and criticizing yourself non-stop, it is pure self abuse.
“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.” ―William W. Purkey
